Gulab Sagar Lake is defined by its deep, vibrant blue water set against a series of steep, sandstone stairs that drop directly into the tank. Maharaja Vijay Singh built this reservoir in the late eighteenth century to provide a reliable water supply for the city. During the construction, workers excavated massive amounts of rock, leaving behind a deep basin that captured rainwater. Gulab Rai, the king’s mistress, supervised the project, and her name remains attached to the water today.
