The Gulab Sagar Talab is a massive rectangular water reservoir enclosed by high, weathered sandstone walls. Built in the late eighteenth century, this artificial lake served as the primary source of water for the city of Jodhpur for generations. Gulab Rai, the mistress of Maharaja Vijay Singh, commissioned the project to solve the chronic water shortages plaguing the desert region. It remains a stark reminder of the engineering feats required to sustain a kingdom in the middle of the Thar Desert.
