Chandpole Gate

The Chandpole Gate in Jodhpur features a massive, thick stone archway topped with a small, intricate balcony that stands out against the pale sandstone buildings nearby. It served as a vital entry point in the city's defensive wall, named for the moon, or chand, which hangs directly above the gate at certain times of the year. When local merchant families traveled, they passed through this threshold, leaving their homes behind for trade routes that stretched deep into the Thar Desert.
