Baiji ka Talab

Baiji ka Talab is a deep, rectangular stepwell surrounded by high, carved stone walls that trap the desert heat and silence the city outside. Gulab Rai, the wife of Maharaja Vijay Singh, commissioned this water tank in the eighteenth century to ensure a reliable supply for Jodhpur. While the city thrived, laborers hauled stone and chiseled intricate arches around the perimeter. The water level drops significantly during the dry season, exposing wide, weathered steps that disappear into the murky depths below.
