Fatehpol

Fatehpol stands as the massive, stone-carved northern gateway to the walled city of Jodhpur. Its heavy, spiked wooden doors were designed to stop charging elephants, a practical defense against invaders during the eighteenth century. Maharao Abhai Singh ordered its construction to secure the city against the frequent raids from neighboring rivals. While the surrounding walls have crumbled in places, these thick, arched masonry walls remain, preserving the original intent of a city that kept its gates locked tight against the outside world.
