The tomb of Hafez sits beneath an open-air pavilion supported by eight stone columns. The structure holds a marble sarcophagus inscribed with verses from his poetry. Ali Asghar Hekmat commissioned this design in nineteen thirty-five, replacing an older, smaller enclosure with this airy, octagonal canopy. Visitors come to touch the stone and recite his ghazals, continuing a tradition of seeking guidance from his work. Sometimes they leave small offerings or sit on the nearby benches to read through his collection.
