Triton and Siren

The bronze statue of a triton blowing into a conch shell while a siren sits perched at his side sits atop a circular fountain at the corner of Morelos and Iturbide. Carlos Espino cast this work in nineteen ninety. It replaced the original fountain that stood here until a storm destroyed it in nineteen eighty-six. During the bronze casting process, the artist used a heavy sand-mold technique that gives the figures their distinct, rugged texture and deep, dark patina.
