The bronze sculpture Nature as Mother, known locally as La Madre Naturaleza, features a woman cradling a child while a large iguana perches on her shoulder. Created by artist Rafael Zamarripa, this monument anchors the southern end of the Malecon. The piece honors the connection between the town and its rugged coastline. It survived the destructive waves of hurricane Kenna in two thousand two, remaining bolted to its base while the surrounding pavement crumbled into the sea beneath it.
