Klosteret Mat & Vin

The thick, uneven stone walls of Klosteret Mat and Vin hold the heat of a fireplace that has burned for centuries. This cellar belonged to a monastery founded in the twelfth century, where monks once stored their provisions and wine. When fire razed the timber city of Bergen, these stone chambers survived intact. Today, the cellar operates as a restaurant, preserving the heavy masonry and arched ceilings that supported the monks as they lived, prayed, and kept their stores in the dark.
