Sandviksboder Kystkultursenter

The row of red-painted wooden warehouses lining the waterfront dates back to the eighteenth century, when these buildings served as vital trade depots for Bergen's busy fishing fleet. While the rest of the city modernized, these structures kept their salt-weathered character, housing the barrels and gear that fueled the local economy. In nineteen eighty-four, the site became a coastal culture center, preserving the old trade traditions. A fishing boat named the Saint John once moored here, famously carrying a cargo of salted herring to London.
