Nordnes Park

Nordnes Park sits on the outermost tip of the Nordnes peninsula, defined by the large totem pole standing near the water. This park occupies the site of the former Frederiksberg fortress, which helped defend Bergen during the seventeenth century. After the city fire of nineteen oh four destroyed much of the area, planners turned the scorched, rocky ground into a public garden. The totem pole arrived much later, a gift from the people of Seattle in nineteen seventy-eight to celebrate Bergen’s nine hundredth anniversary.
