Knøsesmauet

Knøsesmauet is a narrow, winding alleyway in Bergen lined with white wooden houses and stone foundations. Its steep, cobblestone path cuts directly through the Nordnes peninsula. In the late eighteenth century, this area suffered a devastating fire that destroyed almost every structure. Residents rebuilt the homes using the same dense, cramped layout, creating the tight corridor seen today. The writer Nordahl Grieg grew up in one of these houses, famously describing how the narrow street felt like a small world unto itself.
