Torgallmenningen

Torgallmenningen is a wide, stone-paved boulevard in the heart of Bergen, marked by the Sjomannsmonumentet, or Sailors Monument, rising from its center. In nineteen sixteen, a massive fire wiped out the city center. City officials widened this street into a grand plaza to serve as a firebreak, ensuring that another inferno could never jump from one side of the city to the other again. It now functions as the city's living room, where the cobblestones stay warm from the crowds.
