Skuteviksbryggen

The long row of white wooden warehouses stretches along the water, their foundations disappearing directly into the Bergen harbor. These are the Skuteviksbryggen, built by merchants in the eighteenth century to store salt, dried fish, and grain. When a massive fire swept through Bergen in nineteen oh one, these buildings somehow survived the flames that leveled much of the neighborhood. A local merchant named Jacob Kjøde bought the warehouses in the twenties, using them as the primary hub for his shipping empire.
