Palacio Euskalduna

The Euskalduna Palace is a jumble of oxidized steel plates and jagged, irregular glass panes that looks like a ship being built or perhaps one being broken apart. It sits on the former site of the Euskalduna shipyards, which closed in the late eighties after a century of steelwork. When the city replaced the docks with this conference center in nineteen ninety-nine, the architects left the exterior to rust intentionally, mimicking the weathered hulls that once lined this bend of the Nervion River.
