Havnegade Promenaden

The Havnegade promenade runs as a wide, granite-paved edge where the city meets the Inner Harbor. It exists because of a nineteen nineties redesign that traded industrial shipping piers for public access. Before that, heavy cranes and cargo ships occupied this entire stretch. Architect Boje Lundgaard pushed for the granite steps that lead directly down to the water, a design that let people sit at the edge of the harbor for the first time since the nineteenth century.
