Chemin des Vignes

The name Chemin des Vignes acts as a living memory of a time when the hillsides here were covered in grapevines rather than urban buildings. For over a thousand years, the Paris region thrived as one of the largest wine-producing areas in all of France. By the nineteenth century, this agricultural heritage was so central to the identity of Issy-les-Moulineaux that nearly half of the city's local council members were practicing winemakers. Today, a local family maintains a small, symbolic vineyard here, reviving the tradition by hosting annual harvests where local schoolchildren help pick the grapes, stomp them by foot, and press them to create a small batch of wine that keeps the history of the land alive.
