Issy-les-Moulineaux holds a unique place in the history of card games in France. The Musee Francais de la Carte a Jouer, or the French Playing Card Museum, stands here as the only institution in the entire country dedicated specifically to the history and artistry of playing cards. This museum is housed partly within the entry pavilion of what was once the chateau of the princes of Conti, a site that echoes with the aristocratic history of the region. By preserving these objects, the museum documents centuries of social habits, artistic trends, and manufacturing techniques that once centered on the simple deck of cards.
