Conservatory Niedermeyer

The Conservatory Niedermeyer is marked by the glass facade of the Palais des Congres, which houses the school within the modern architecture of Issy-les-Moulineaux. Louis Niedermeyer founded this school in eighteen thirty-four to train church musicians, specifically to restore the quality of choral singing in French cathedrals. Gabriel Faure and Andre Messager both studied here, sitting in classrooms that were far more austere than these contemporary walls suggest. It remains a place where students practice music under a curriculum born from nineteenth century liturgical demands.
