Stadterhebungsmonument

historic

The Stadterhebungsmonument sits in the heart of the Altstadt, marked by a dense collection of bronze figures cast in high relief. It commemorates the year twelve eighty-eight, when Düsseldorf received its city charter following the Battle of Worringen. The sculptor Bert Gerresheim packed the scene with details, including a small dog and a merchant carrying a barrel of beer, hinting at the daily life that defined the young settlement long before it grew into the center of the Rhine-Ruhr region.
