Stadttor

The Stadttor building creates a sharp, steel-clad gateway to the Düsseldorf media harbor, defined by two massive, glass-walled office towers bridged by a high, hollow atrium. When it opened in nineteen ninety-eight, its design prioritized natural ventilation, relying on the wind from the Rhine rather than heavy air conditioning. Architect Karl-Heinz Petzinka intended this structure to mark the entrance to the new city quarter. Government officials moved their offices here, housing the state chancellery within this frame of glass and steel.
