Hitsville

The building at Hitsville has a stark, windowless brick facade that sits heavily against the sidewalk. Inside these walls, a former electrical distribution substation from the nineteen twenties was hollowed out to become a sanctuary for underground music. During the eighties, record store owner Michael Korf set up shop here, turning a space designed to manage city power into a hub for alternative culture. He hosted local bands and imported vinyl until the city finally converted the site into a permanent club.
