Kran am Parlamentsufer

The two red cranes at the Parlamentsufer are holdovers from the nineteen-sixties, when this part of the Rhine riverbank served exclusively as a transshipment point for iron and coal. They are steel relics of the old industrial harbor that once defined the city skyline. While modern glass offices surround them today, the cranes remain locked in place. They serve as mechanical anchors, keeping a physical link to the days when dockworkers moved heavy freight from barges directly into the trains that serviced Düsseldorf.
