Marktplatz

The Marktplatz sits in the heart of Düsseldorf, defined by the equestrian statue of Jan Wellem standing at its center. This bronze figure honors the prince elector who brought art and culture to the city in the early eighteenth century. While the square serves as the traditional site for public gatherings, it became a stage for a very different scene in nineteen forty-five. Following the city's liberation, the Allies used this exact spot to screen films of concentration camp atrocities for local residents.
