Hetjens-Museum

The Hetjens Museum occupies the Palais Nesselrode, recognizable by its pale yellow facade and the clean, rhythmic lines of eighteenth-century baroque architecture. Inside, the collection spans eight thousand years of ceramic history. In nineteen oh nine, Laurenz Heinrich Hetjens gifted his private collection of stoneware to the city of Düsseldorf, establishing a dedicated space for fired earth. During the second world war, curators bricked the most delicate porcelain behind walls in the cellar to protect the fragile clay from falling bombs.
