Ghetto Memorial Wall

landmark

A rusted iron segment of the former Budapest ghetto wall stands permanently embedded within the brickwork of a quiet courtyard. This fragment is all that remains of the high fence that once enclosed seven blocks of the Erzsébetváros district in nineteen forty-four. Thousands of people lived behind these barriers under armed guard, waiting for deportation. After the war, the rest of the wall was demolished, but this section was preserved here to mark the exact perimeter of the wartime enclosure.
