Raoul Wallenberg Holocaust Memorial Park

The weeping willow sculpture at the center of the Raoul Wallenberg Holocaust Memorial Park bears the names of thousands of victims on its silver leaves. Beneath the metal branches lie the remains of those who perished in the nearby ghetto during the winter of nineteen forty-four and nineteen forty-five. Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg issued protective passports to thousands of Hungarian Jews, hiding them in safe houses across Budapest. He disappeared into Soviet custody in nineteen forty-five, and his ultimate fate remains unknown.
