Cinéma Rif

The Cinéma Rif sports a bright orange facade that anchors the corner of the Grand Socco. Originally built in nineteen thirty-eight, it served as a colonial theater for the French expatriate community. In the two thousands, actress Yto Barrada transformed the decaying building into a cultural center. She saved the neon sign and the velvet seats, turning the space into a hub for independent Moroccan film. It remains the only cinema in the city that consistently screens work from local directors.
