The Librairie des Colonnes holds a distinctive blue storefront on the corner of the Boulevard Pasteur in Tangier. Founded in nineteen forty-nine, the shop served as the primary gathering point for international writers who flocked to the city during its years as an international zone. Paul Bowles and Tennessee Williams spent their afternoons here browsing French and Spanish literature. Even today, the shelves reflect that history, stocking rare editions alongside contemporary works that keep the literary spirit of the city alive.
