Built in eighteen eighty-eight, it served as the first luxury hotel in Tangier for travelers arriving by ship. During the nineteen fifties, Ian Fleming stayed here while writing his fiction, often watching the harbor activity from the terrace. The lobby floors remain covered in original eighteen-hundreds ceramic tiles, worn thin in the center by decades of guests walking toward the dining room.
