The yellow steel gate at the entrance to the former Lenin Shipyard is topped by a simple, weathered sign and two clocks that stopped at the exact moment of a historic strike. When thousands of workers refused to leave this yard in August nineteen eighty, they turned a industrial gate into the front line of the Solidarity movement. Lech Walesa famously climbed this structure to address the crowds, transforming a functional checkpoint into the symbolic birthplace of the protests that dismantled the communist government.
