Neptune's Fountain

The Neptune Fountain stands in the center of the Long Market, topped by a bronze statue of the sea god leaning forward with his trident. Sculpted in the early seventeenth century, the figure represents the city's deep connection to the Baltic Sea and international trade. During the Second World War, workers disassembled the bronze parts and hid them in the countryside to prevent their destruction. The statue returned to its pedestal in nineteen fifty-four, where it still watches over the merchant houses today.
