Golden House

The Golden House sits at the heart of Gdańsk, identifiable by the elaborate gilded sculptures and intricate reliefs covering its narrow, three-story stone facade. Built for the wealthy merchant Jan Speymann in sixteen oh nine, the building served as a luxurious home and a display of his standing in the city. During the Second World War, fire gutted the interior, leaving only the front wall standing. Craftsmen later rebuilt the house, carefully recreating the carvings that show scenes of biblical and historical battles.
