The English House in Gdańsk features a distinctive, highly decorative facade covered in intricate stone carvings and multiple gables that rise sharply above the street. Built in the mid-sixteenth century, this merchant house served as a base for English traders who dominated the local wool and grain commerce. Inside, the ornate hall hosted lavish banquets for diplomats and wealthy merchants. During a dispute in the seventeen-nineties, the owner refused to pay municipal taxes, sparking a long legal battle that eventually bankrupted the family.
