The house on Piwna Street stands out because of the four stone dogs carved in high relief above the entrance. These animals guard the doorway, each depicted in a different pose. Built in the seventeenth century, the townhouse served as a merchant residence during the height of the city's maritime trade. Legend says the original owner, a wealthy trader, adored his hounds and insisted they be immortalized in sandstone so his loyal companions would greet him every time he returned from a long voyage.
