Wybrzeze Theatre

The Wybrzeze Theatre stands out on Targ Weglowy because of its stark, modernist facade that contrasts sharply with the nearby historic architecture of Gdansk. Completed in the late sixties, this concrete structure occupies a site where theatre has been performed for centuries. In nineteen seventy, the building became a flashpoint for political tension when workers and students gathered outside during the protests that would eventually reshape Poland. The stage inside remains a primary venue for premieres of Polish contemporary drama.
