The massive yellow steel crane rises above the Imperial Shipyard, a lattice of riveted beams that anchored the harbor skyline since nineteen thirty-seven. Built to lift heavy battleship components, this crane outlasted the shipyard's original German owners and the communist era that followed. During the nineteen eighties, the crane loomed over workers protesting for labor rights. Today, the rusted machinery sits motionless, held in place as a heavy, industrial marker of the people who shaped modern Polish history from this very spot.
