The Plaza Berria is defined by its enclosed, square perimeter of tall, cream-colored buildings with uniform balconies. Built on the site of a former convent, this space became a lively center for trade and commerce after the original religious structures were demolished in the nineteenth century. Locals once crowded here for the bustling market held in the center. Today, the quiet rhythm of the square hides the fact that it sits directly above one of the city's primary underground infrastructure hubs.
