Wildersgade

Wildersgade features a row of low-slung, pastel-colored houses that seem caught in a different century. Built in the seventeen hundreds, these structures originally housed the workers and laborers connected to the nearby ropewalks and shipyards. Wealthy merchant Pieter de Wilder established the area, turning the marshy ground into a hub of maritime industry. While the neighborhood around these streets transformed into a trendy district, these narrow buildings kept their cramped proportions and the rough brickwork of their working-class beginnings.
