Flæsketorvet

Flæsketorvet features low, white, concrete buildings with distinct arched windows and yellow brick detailing. This was once the center of Copenhagen's meatpacking district, designed by architect Halldor Gunnløgsson in the nineteen thirties to replace the city's older, crowded butcher shops. Sanitation was the primary concern, so the architects used smooth surfaces and rounded corners to keep the spaces free of bacteria. When the butchers moved out, the area transformed into a hub for restaurants and galleries.
