The harbor bath at Islands Brygge is marked by its long, tiered wooden platforms that hover just inches above the water of Copenhagen Harbor. Before this opened in two thousand two, the inner harbor water was too polluted for swimming, and the area served as a desolate industrial dock. Bjarke Ingels designed these pools to bring the public back to the water, turning a former shipping zone into a space where city workers swim during their lunch hour in the middle of downtown.
