The main building of the University of Copenhagen dominates Frue Plads with a heavy, neoclassical facade featuring a wide, arched entrance and rows of uniform windows. King Christian the First founded the institution in fourteen seventy-nine to train theologians and administrators for the Danish state. When the original university buildings burned during the great fire of seventeen twenty-eight, the school lost its entire library, including the collection of the famous astronomer Tycho Brahe. It remains the oldest university in Denmark today.
