Lille Langebro

The Lille Langebro bridge stretches across the Inner Harbor in a series of sharp, jagged zigzags. It carries cyclists and pedestrians alone, intentionally separating them from the heavy car traffic of the nearby Langebro bridge. When a large ship needs to pass, two of the bridge sections pivot horizontally, swinging open like a pair of enormous gates. A local engineer, Peter Poulsen, spent years refining the mechanism to ensure the movement remained silent and smooth even under the weight of thousands of commuters.
