Carl-Zeiss Planetarium Stuttgart

The Carl Zeiss Planetarium features a distinct, copper-clad dome that sits prominently above the surrounding trees. It serves as a modern theater for the stars, built in nineteen seventy-seven to replace a previous planetarium destroyed during the Second World War. When the astronomer Walter Villiger first worked with Zeiss engineers to design the world's first projection system in the nineteen twenties, he aimed to bring the entire night sky indoors for a crowd. This dome remains the stage for that ongoing experiment.
