House of History Baden-Württemberg

museum

The House of History stands in the Oberer Schlossgarten as a sleek block of glass and sandstone, its sharp edges cutting a modern silhouette against the surrounding park greenery. Opened in nineteen eighty-seven, it functions as a museum dedicated to the political and social history of southwest Germany since the year seventeen ninety. Architect Dieter Herrmann designed the building to bury the exhibition halls underground, leaving only the glass foyer visible to preserve the view across the public gardens toward the city palace.
