Jubiläumssäule

historic

The Jubiläumssäule is a fluted sandstone column topped by a gilded statue of Concordia, the Roman goddess of harmony. King Wilhelm the First commissioned this monument in eighteen forty-one to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of his reign. The structure sits on a high stone pedestal decorated with reliefs depicting scenes of prosperity and agriculture. During the Second World War, the original figure was removed for protection, leaving only the column standing empty for years while the statue waited in a bunker.
