A bronze plaque embedded in the wall of the old Stuttgart town hall marks the birthplace of the writer Wilhelm Hauff. He entered the world here in eighteen hundred and two, the son of a government official. During his short life, he authored fairy tales that remain staples of German literature. When the building was destroyed during bombing raids in the second world war, the city preserved this marker, and it remains a point of reference for his early childhood in the city center.
