Hegel House

The Hegel House stands out for its half-timbered facade and steep, tiled roof, a rare survivor of the medieval city center. Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel spent his childhood here until he left for university in seventeen eighty-eight. Later, the building served as a communal residence for students, who famously kept a portrait of the philosopher hanging in the hall. During the war, incendiary bombs gutted the interior, but crews rebuilt the structure to house a permanent exhibition dedicated to his work.
