Hotel Deutsche Eiche

The Hotel Deutsche Eiche features a distinct, pale yellow facade with rows of green-shuttered windows sitting right on the edge of the Glockenbachviertel district. This building began as a humble tavern in eighteen sixty-four. It became a central refuge for Munich's gay community long before the city recognized such spaces. Rainer Werner Fassbinder, the influential filmmaker, spent years drinking and filming here. He even kept a permanent room on the top floor, surrounded by his cast and crew during the seventies.
