Zur Uel

food drink

The timber-framed facade of Zur Uel leans slightly over the cobblestones, marked by dark, weathered beams and a crest depicting a traditional brewing kettle. This building functions as one of the oldest taverns in Düsseldorf, serving Altbier directly from wooden barrels since the mid-seventeenth century. While the city faced near-total destruction during the second world war, this corner structure remained standing. It survived because a local waiter famously refused to leave his post, successfully dousing roof fires with beer during an air raid.
